The Official AniTAY Spring 2019 Sequel Guide

Spring is upon us! The time for love, for your alleriges to awaken, to chase eggs hidden by a bunny, stop eating meat on Friday and certain holy days and, most importantly… enjoy new anime! And especially the sequels or related works based on our beloved series! Including, but not limited the super heroes that wins with just one punch, the titans that attack and eat people and so forth!

For this time around, and after enjoying a bunch of different drinks then, we decided to get alcohol poisoning! I mean… to compare the series to the finest alcoholic beverages out there, a true alcohol tasting for the most refined mouths — thus the Drink Meter

Now, and as a reminder. We don’t usually put the “where to watch” section, since while being a highly requested feature, the streaming services like Crunchyroll, Funimation, Hidive and the like, generally speaking, doesn´t announce what they will be bringing until just a few days before the premiere. Taking that into account the end result would be a section mostly empty with a few exceptions… So we hope you understand. Having said, here are the series!

Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin - Eve of the Red Comet

Preview Author: Ishamael

Type: Prequel/Recut

Studio: Sunrise

Genre(s): Military, Mecha, Political

About the Series: A recut of the theatrical OVA series and adaption of a manga of the same name. Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin is set before the events of the original 1979 anime classic Mobile Suit Gundam. It serves a prequel to the entire “Universal Century” timeline, the original and by far largest Gundam timeline.

The Origin - Eve of the Red Comet tells the story of Char Aznable as he rises through the ranks of Zeon to become the man we all know, love, hate, and can’t stop watching. Funny enough, this is a Gundam where Gundams are not really featured.

DRINK METER: Gundams may not be featured but they’re always around the corner. Just take straight up Oil so you can feel just like the robots themselves.

Time to Catch Up: As a prequel not much is needed to enjoy the events. However a basic understanding of future events will enhance the series for viewers.

One Punch Man Season 2

Preview Author: Ishamael

Type: Sequel

Studio: JC Staff

Genre(s): Seinen, Action, Super Heroes, Comedy, Parody

About the Series: Saitama was your regular salary man, depressed and listless in his do nothing job. However, one day he decides to become a hero to help people. After years of (sort of) intense training, he is the greatest hero of all time: One Punch Man, a person able to beat any enemy with a single blow. Unfortunately for him his great power have isolated him, as few believe his claims, and nobody understands the existential malaise them comes from being unbeatable.

Continuing right where the first season left off, albeit with a new production studio, this second outing has a lot to prove being a follow up to one of the biggest hits of recent memory. Expertly blending absurdist humor that parodies the tropes of the shonen and super-powered genre with genuine action and likeable characters, One Punch Man is a series that transcends its conventions.

DRINK METER: What better way to enjoy this series than with a nice Caribou Lou (151 Rum, Pineapple Juice, Coconut Rum). The 151 will give you a good punch to the face, just like our protagonist.

Time to Catch Up: About 4 and a half hours (12 Episodes)

Strike Witches 501 Butai Hasshinshimasu!

Written by: AoiYamamoto

Type: Spinoff

Studio: Anime Beans/Production IG

Genre: Slice of Life, Action-Adventure, Comedy

About the series: In this alternate version of World War 2, aliens called the Neuroi are invading the world. The only ones who can stop are young women known as Witches: girls with magical capabilities and possessors of mecha...or Striker Units. This series is more slice of life, however, dealing with what the 501 does in their off-time. The original cast returns, with Fumio Ito (School Live!) directing.

If you’re planning to catch this because you want to see cute girls doing nothing, you might want to see the previous two seasons first to get a feel for this world.

Before the premiere, you can catch season one on Funimation and both seasons on Amazon Prime.

DRINK METER: This freaking show. Ugh. If you degenerates absolutely must watch girls in their panties, then drink the Panty Dropper (Vodka, Schnapps and Cranberry Juice) to really get in the mood ya filthy animals.

Youkai Watch (2019)

Preview Author: ShadowHaken

Type: Sequel

Studio: OLM

Genre(s): Comedy, Supernatural

About the Series: Nathan Adams is your average kid, so average that he embodies the very definition of the word. One day, this average kid gets his hands on the legendary Youkai Watch, which let him see, talk to, befriend, and summon the supernatural beings known as Youkai. This is his life alongside the Youkai Whisper, Jibanyan, and a bunch of other supernatural trouble-makers!

Now, this seems to be a new season of the classic anime, not the one which appeared on 2018 “Youkai-Watch: Shadowside” which centers more into the action and an actual story arc, the classic one (and most likely this one too) focuses on the jokes, gags, and not much on the actual story.Which not bad, it´s just a difference from the 2018 series to be aware..

DRINK METER: You shouldn’t be getting drunk around children, so take your Orange Juice and wait until you can get inebriated appropriately.

Time to Catch Up: 102 hours (214 chapters of the original series plus 49 of the Shadowside series)

What You Need to Watch: Youkai Watch (required); Youkai Watch: Shadowside (optional)

It doesn’t matter if it’s a crab, snake, cat, or snail, demon or god – his kind heart doesn’t allow him to turn away from people in need. This season is a sequel to Owarimonogatari 2nd Season and explores the events that happened to Araragi after his high school graduation.
