Title: Inori~You Raise Me Up~ | Artist: Lena Park | Show: Romeo x Juliet

Since it is February, a month famous for its ties to romance due to Valentine's Day, I decided to reflect that in one of my picks this month with the beautiful opening from Romeo x Juliet. I wonder how many of you even knew that there was an anime based on Romeo and Juliet. Well maybe "based on" isn't the right words to say. More like "loosely based on", and do I mean loosely. Anyways, this anime was actually pretty good, even if it did take extreme liberties with the source material. If you are interested in checking it out, FUNimation has the license and it can be seen on Hulu, FUNi's streaming service, or just straight up bought on home video from FUNi. But enough about the show itself! It is all about the show's opening today!

You know how a lot of people here (including myself) are fawning over Kei from Goose house? Well the singer of the song in this OP, Lena Park, was the OG Kei to me. I just love her singing voice. Fun fact, Lena Park is actually a Korean-American singer, which makes her Japanese singing all the more impressive. And of course, like most anime OP songs, the full version is better, so check that out too.

But wait, there's more. Remember how I said Lena was a Korean- American? That means we have an English version as well, baby!

And of course, lastly it needs to be said, this song is actually a cover of a song called "You Raise Me Up" first performed by the Irish-Norwegian instrumental duo Secret Garden with Irish singer Brian Kennedy doing the vocals. The song itself has been covered by over 100 different artists since it came out in 2002, and I think I should also include the OG version, just to honor it.

Regardless of what version of this song I hear, it is one of my favorite songs. And I usually don't care for gospel songs. Go figure.
