OP/ED of the Day #192: To Be Continued?

Title: To Be Continued? | Artist: Kaori Sadohara | Show: Mondaijitachi ga Isekai kara Kuru Sou Desu yo? (Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren’t They?

Description: It’s the ending to Mondaiji-tachi, a show about a bunch of superpowered kids getting pulled into a world of friendly competition between other superpower users. These kids also happen to be a bunch of trolls, and have been very conveniently given a perfect target in their host, Kuro Usagi, the Black Rabbit of the Moon. She gets flustered and annoyed and outright furious with all of their antics, which are exactly the reactions these jerks want out of her.

Why You Picked It: The song itself is a wonderful smattering of awful Engrish. The singer gets the frustrated tone of the lyrics completely correct, but they’re all RPG gamer terminology and she’s clearly never heard most of the words in her life. They’ve given her a katakana pronunciation guide to them, and she probably doesn’t speak a lick of English; abslutely everything is pronounced fully in standard Japanese syllables.

The lyrics themselves are about her playing some video game and losing horrendously. None of the event flags are being tripped properly, the walkthroughs are wrong and/or helpful, even the cheats aren’t working. She’s powering through it on sheer stubbornness. It’s a really perfect song for the show, because that’ about how Kuro Usagi is dealing with the kids. The animation works very well with it. Notice the girls just completely losing the motivation to keep up with her a couple seconds into it, and then Kuro Usagi going OH HELL NO and going balls-to-the-wall into it. They all end up joining in just not to be outdone. It’s really great fun, perfect for the overall tone of the show itself.
