Title: Mirai | Artist: Kobukuro | Anime: Orange
Hello AniTAY! My OP/ED pick for this week if from the currently-airing Orange, which is based from the popular manga. I haven’t read the manga, so I can’t comment on how faithful the anime is to the base material, but I can definitely say that I have been enjoying it so far.
Going into it, I thought Orange was going to be similar to ReLIFE in that the MC has a chance to chance “redo” their youth by making different decisions in order to have a better adulthood. But that’s where the similarity ends. In Orange, Naho (the MC) receives letters from her future self that describe what events will happen and what actions she should take. These are actions that will not only help Naho reduce the number of regrets that she has as she grows older, but will also help a classmate who is going through some tough times.
I can tell that this is going to be an emotional ride and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out! I picked this ED because the artist does a great job of conveying a feeling of melancholy but once the latter half begins playing, the feeling is flipped to one of hope and aspiration. Its as though the message is that sure, the present may be tough and there are many obstacles that we have to overcome. But with the help of others and by believing in your abilities, you can get through it and you will be much stronger and happier for it in the future (or “mirai” in Japanese).
