OP/ED a Day #265 : Title: Rain | Artist: Motohiro Hata | Show: Kotonoha no Niwa

Why I picked it: Yet another heartbreaking offering from pain-monger director Makoto Shinkai, Kotonoha no Niwa was amazing, both story-wise and in its visuals. And then, you’ve got this amazing ending theme. Again, Makoto Shinkai has picked a song that came way before the movie did, this time from 1988. The original was sung by Senri Oe, and you can check it out below.

The lyrics sound great, and again, carry a story creepily similar to the move itself. That begs the question: “Did Shinkai base his movies off songs?!” But in any case, it’s a great song, from an equally great movie, sung well by an artist I haven’t heard elsewhere, so it’s all good.
