Welcome back and as always thanks for reading. This is the place where I comment weekly on the latest chapter of Makashi Kishimoto’s sequel manga Naruto Gaiden. As always for those who missed my past write ups you can find Chapter 8 here and Chapter 7 here. Furthermore as I was reading my weekly manga’s I came across a little surprise treat for myself a manga adaptation of Dragon Ball Super, if you’re a fan of Dragon Ball as I am (and not afraid of spoilers) check out my Dragon Ball Super (Chapter 1) Impressions One Shot and let me know what you think. Anyways lets get into why you’re really here Naruto!
Well this chapter certainly started abruptly returning to Shin’s hideout after Sakura makes her threats seemingly with no build up what so ever Shin unveils his arm of blades something that looks ripped right from a fever dream of Tim Burton. Following from this we see Susanoo flying through the sky as Ninja transport for the team. Where Sarada is deep in thought about some of the things she’s learned most notably the seemingly real feelings her father has for her mother that she now questions. However before letting Sarada get too far down the rabbit hole Naruto showing once again a level of emotional maturity calms her with a quick pat on the back and warm smile.
Once the party arrives them (and us the reader) are welcomed with a bang as Shin and Sakura’s battle is heating up. Shin showing off the use of his new arm unleashes a decidedly deadly looking Shuriken however I must say if that’s his trump card its kinda sad even combined with his ability to control weapons, I mean Tenten the most useless member of the Naruto cast from the last generation could do as much. Anyways in true Naruto Gaiden style this stage of battle doesn’t last long as Sasuke using Susanoo quickly grabs Shin and unleashes one of the ultimate Jutsu of the Uchiha Amataratsu.
Following his total and humiliating defeat Shin decides his best course of action is to unleash his clones as a distraction and escape for the time being against the far stronger force before him. Unfortunately his “Children” have different ideas... presumably pissed off for the years of abuse and very little of anything in return. They mercilessly slaughter him calling him weak ironically mirror the survival of the fittest mantra Shin himself has been peddling for the past few chapters. The Shin clones gather there forces in totality getting ready for a giant battle with Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke, and Sarada. I suppose Chōchō is there too...
The battle seems to be pretty straight forward as army of mooks both big and small (improperly cloned) bares down on the group. However Naruto has a counter to their numbers Tajū Kage Bunshin no Jutsu, with Sasuke playing heavy support taking out the abnormal members of the group easily. Using the confusion of the melee to escape Shin decides before he leaves he’ll need some spares (as in organs) and tries to take the two children however before he can Sarada kills Shin’s teleporting little pet. Following this not content to have one decent moment this chapter Sarada goes all out unleashing her awesome strength and rupturing the ground around her in a moment very reminiscent of her mom all the while screaming her moms classic catchphrase.
Well this seems to be ramping up real fast now. Not only was the pace of the chapter faster then most but it seems we’re wrapping up a lot of lose ends. The main trio of Sakura, Sasuke, and Naruto have been reunited. Sarada’s emotional journey seems to have reached at the very least a sense of closure while simultaneously the story is by this point screaming that Sarada’s parentage is not really a question worth asking for a variety of factors I wrote last week. In the end all it feels like the group has left to do is mop up the army of Shin Clones with some more awesome displays of power and then have the conversation we’ve all be waiting for. Regardless it was a fun chapter if lighter then normal and I’m still looking forward to the next chapter even knowing we’re getting close to the ending and therefore the movie...
