Slowly but surely, Concrete is filling in the details while still fleshing out their world. If you need assistance, Kikko and Gugsy will help you through Episodes 1-9.
So I realized last week, that dumb me was merely updating the timeline, but that this won’t be helpful for those who aren’t watching weekly. In the last week, I’ve retroactively created timelines for each week starting from Week 4, which people can check using the Concrete Revolutio tag. Anyway to the episode!
This week’s superheroes are the Immortal Family, as I’ve dubbed them. We begin with one member of the family being captured by the Americans during the war. 26 years later, what the Bureau presumed to be an evil experiment, is in actuality a signal from the Family to their missing member. It’s this signal that brings the Bureau in more direct contact with the Family (I so wanted to use the face Kikko made when Emi teased, “Oh, so you know that making children requires a father and mother” during their discussion of the family, as my header image. Too bad the translation was misspelled. *Raises fist to sky*), and eventually in conflict with the Americans. The Americans apparently have their own Superhuman Bureau, though they (as we Americans usually are in anime) are far more nefarious and unscrupulous in their methods. The American robots were also a clear reference to the Transformers, another nice touch from this series in my opinion. Finally, the Family at the end is shown to be something more than Superhumans, beyond even Mr. Jaguar’s time control abilities. They have lived on Earth since the Earth was born, and will continue to live on until the very end. However, I doubt that the Immortal Family is something beyond Superhuman will be explored any further.
Concrete continues spoon-feeding us details of the overarching story through it’s world building each week. By the end of the 44th year, Jiro’s quit the Bureau for some time, judging by Kikko, Furuuota and Emi’s reactions. It has also been hinted at before but we finally see he will quit the Bureau due to their allegedly protecting and exploiting superhumans. He also doesn’t have Equus anymore in the 44th year. What event or series of events actually drives Jiro away from the Bureau remains to be seen, though Emi says to Jiro towards the end, “I’m not mad at you, you can come back”. Emi is shown to have not only her shape shifting powers but control over monsters, as they address her as their “princess”. Another curious little detail is that in the 44th year, it isn’t Chief Akita in charge of the Bureau but the doctor/Jiro’s father due to an “issue”. Is it related to the previous weeks’ Defense Federation of Earth agreements? Mr. Jaguar is writing a letter at the post office but to whom? Next week is going to introduce people from the future “correcting” history from “time criminals”. Chief Akita is shown so I imagine this will be pre-43rd year, and will probably involve Mr. Jaguar. We will hopefully get a little closer to Jiro quitting, and also another appearance from Scarf Jiro to flesh out the post 46th year events. Anyway, this week we have events in the 16th, 42nd and 44th years.
