Chapter 19: The story of Amanojaku
Our heroes continue with their journey, they have crossed a huge mountain path in search of a blacksmith that could repair the sword arms of Hyakkimaru. On their journey, Dororo has detected a new habit of her travelling partner. Hyakkimaru likes to rub his face on a lot of things, and he just did it with a horse.
They ask in the town about the blacksmith, and a man says that they do have one, but its nothing to be amazed off, plus he has a daughter, Okowa, she is an ugly one. Dororo checks an axe made by the blacksmith, and its actually quite good.
They reach the house of the blacksmith and are received by his beautiful daughter, Okowa. Hyakkimaru, as he is, start rubbing his face on her face, making her heart beat a lot. Still she presents them to her Father, she also tells him that Hyakkimaru might want to marry her… By how he acted.
In any case, the blacksmith will help them, but first he needs to purify the blade and the materials, so they go to the temple. Dororo grabbed some funny looking mask alongside Hyakkimaru. In the temple, the Ronin starts acting weird and is having some difficult time, still in the shadows a super natural being is at the vicinity.
The night fell, Dororo explains to Hyakkimaru that the swords will come here, so they don´t need to go and pester the blacksmith, plus they have the money to stay for a while.
The next day, Dororo was received with an unexpected news… Hyakkimaru is going to marry the beautiful Okowa. Dororo is impressed by such revelations, and the non interest of Hyakkimaru on getting his body back, the journey or Dororo herself! He just wants to be with Okowa! What is even worst is that the mouth of the little one keeps spewing nice words and approval of their relationship! Dororo doesn´t know what to do and just leaves. Hyakkimaru says that Dororo looked happy…
During the day, Dororo went investigating, it seems everyone is talking backwards. The happy couple, from strange congratulation that looked more like insults, to happy declarations from people with a sad or serious face.
The next day, Dororo went again in order to get what is truly happening, everything happened again, she was saying things she didn’t meant to say. She felt depressed, especially because just recently Hyakkimaru declared that he went for her, to rescue her and be with her…
Suddenly Dororo found the blacksmith, this man was making a sword in order to end wars, a powerful weapon that the opponent would decide to not to battle, a killing weapon whose sole purpose is to stop killing. Dororo can detect that she can talk freely with him, like whatever happens she can speak her mind out. At the same time it seems that Okowa speaks her mind too… Dororo can feel that there is something suspicious.
At the next day, it seems the swords are about to be done, the wedding is going to be this same day too… Still Dororo wanted to stay since the swords will come here! Still thanks to Dororo and Okowa they are able to take him to the temple.
There they find the ghoul, and a legend that such temple was protecting them from a malevolent being. By seeing the ghoul, Hyakkimaru tries to attack him, but this being uses such powers to obligue Hyakkimaru to go and attack Dororo, starting to strangle her, Okowa is trying to stop him, but she can´t do much! It is not until the blacksmith is able to knock the ghoul out and seal him again. The swords are made, everyone will go back to normal…And now Okowa can marry Hyakkimaru…
Obviously Hyakkimaru now oppose such thing. So with everything and all, Okowa understands that Hyakkimaru never had any intentions to make her his woman. So both apologize to the townsfolk, still suddenly a man who has always been in love with Okowa appears and confess his feelings for her, feelings that she accepts.
Hyakkimaru and Dororo, now with the repaired swords, continue their journey while they see Okowa and her future husband being greeted by the townsfolk. Hyakkimaru can see that Okowa is happy.
End of the Chapter
A very funny chapter! I though we would never see one in Dororo, but here we are…And I actually liked it! It was pretty funny and on point with the characters. So it was very enjoyable to watch, from the whole confusion and even the wedding; with Hyakkimaru and Dororo saying the opposite of what they wanted. Also it was funny that Hyakkimaru almost got married, which obviously it won´t happen…And I´m happy that Okowa got her happy ending!
Still, one of the things this chapter reflected was on Hyakkimaru´s way of checking things and how Dororo is trying to teach him to act more human, and not rub his face with everything! At the same time, it was the feelings, how Hyakkimaru is starting to read people´s feelings and how they feel, even if he doesn´t know how they look like, he can start feeling them, so it makes us see how human is Hyakkimaru now.
Also… Yeah, a happy chapter its pretty much a foresight that next time a big tragedy is going to come, a storm is coming and we will see what its going to be.
Anyway my two cents. See ya Next time!
