Welcome back AniTAY! We’re finally here. It’s time for AniTAY’s Top 10 Anime of 2017!

We’ll go quickly one last time over how this works. I asked 22 of our members for their ordered top 10 favorite anime of last year and assigned points based on where each anime ended up. Part One had our #25-59 anime that were mentioned, and Part Two had #11-24 in there so we’re just left with the Top 10! If you want to refresh yourself with what anime were already mentioned, you can find them here and here.

So all that said, you’ve been patiently waiting for me so let’s get to it!

10th. Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond - 47 points

We open today with the sequel to one of the favorite shows of 2015. Ignoring the anime original storyline from that show, we’ve been introduced to more fun members of the Libra organization and their hijinks in Hellsalem’s Lot. This one has it all, action, comedy, supernatural, suspense, drama, and does all of these at high levels.

9th. Descending Stories: Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju Season 2 - 48 points (2 firsts)

AniTAY’s favorite show of 2016, unfortunately the sequel does not repeat for us this year. It seems like less people watched this wonderful little show than last year which is a damn shame. Following Yotarou as he trains under master Yakumo, the pains of the past so eloquently told in the 2016 show continue to affect and drive our heroes.

8th. Saga of Tanya the Evil - 49 points

The most surprising show for me on this list. I didn’t give this one a chance but it seemed to be a much bigger hit than I was anticipating. The titular Tanya is as ruthless as they come, leading her squad of flying mages against her enemies and even God himself.

7th. My Hero Academia Season 2 - 55 points (2 firsts)

As many in the community know, this show is my personal nemesis haha. Oh well. The sequel to the breakout massive hit of 2016, Deku’s personal journey to improve himself as a hero befitting his teacher continued to smash its way through the community. Expect a season 3 to be coming shortly with how much attention this show has gotten.

6th. The Ancient Magus’s Bride - 56 points (2 firsts)

This one might have been the single most hyped show in AniTAY for this year. The OVA’s had made many froth at the mouth for this anime and it definitely delivered. Continuing into 2018, Chise Hatori, the sleigh beggy belonging to Elias Ainsworth wanders through this spectacular magical world, filled with things beyond her imagination.

5th. Owarimonogatari Season 2 - 60 points (3 firsts)

The phenomenon comes to it’s awe-inspiring, fantastic conclusion. Koyomi Arararagi - Oops, I bit my tongue! These OVA’s brought an ending to the storyline introduced in the 2015 precursor, but also brought a fitting ending to the larger Monogatari franchise which has been gracing ourselves with it’s presence throughout the 2010's. Monogatari is loved here in AniTAY (As you can tell from the 3 firsts) and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

4th. KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! Season 2 - 70 points (1 first)

Our co-winner with Rakugo from last year, our favorite fantasy part of idiots and morons lands here at 4th place. The jokes kept flying as Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin and Darkness always managed to land themselves in more and more ridiculous situations, nearly always by their own damn faults. This also marks our highest rated sequel, as our top 3 were all new shows premiering in 2017.

3rd. Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid - 75 points

The show that landed on the most people’s lists (it’s true!) nearly everyone here in AniTAY had a great time with this show. A showcase for Kyoto Animation’s usual incredible animation and sense of comedy, it was only stopped by a pair of shows that blew nearly every viewer away.

2nd. Made in Abyss - 79 points (3 firsts)

Wow was this spectacular. Every frame was like a painting, and the journey our heroes Riko and Reg went on was just an absolutely beautiful journey. Stunning, remarkable, heartbreaking, I could keep throwing adjectives at this show and it wouldn’t be enough. And yet, it only gets 2nd place in our community? Let’s see what elevated itself above the Abyss! (Sorry)

1st. Tsuki ga Kirei - 81 points (2 firsts)

I consider myself somewhat of an anime romance connoisseur. I’ve seen so many of them, I know every step, every trope. And folks, this might sound hyperbolic, but this might be the best anime romance I’ve ever seen. Following a pair of high school dorks, it avoids the tropes and brings one of the most realistic and true romances in all of anime. I can not recommend this show enough.

And That’s that! So what did you think of our tastes? Were there any omissions you feel should have been represented? What shows would you have ranked higher/lower on your own lists? Please feel free to discuss all this and more in the comments! I’ll leave the full list here so you can finally discuss every show that appeared.
