After a week off because of a crazy couple days at work and some pinch hitting by Rock, I’m back and ready to talk about the current season of anime. And what better time is there then now as almost every show has aired at least three episodes and some are already on their fourth. So this week’s question is: what are your favorite shows of the currently airing season?

Also, are their any shows that you were really looking forward to that have so far under performed or a show that you had no initial interest in, but watched the first episode anyway and are now hooked?

So I’m just going to list out my current top three for the season, one that is a pure sequel, one that is a kind-of-sequel and the last that is brand new to this medium. Those three are Haikyuu!! 2, Utawarerumono: the False Faces and One Punch Man. With Noragami Aragoto and Iron-Blooded Orphans rounding out my current top 5.

Haikyuu!! has managed to keep all of the fun and excitement from the first season, and honestly, who doesn’t enjoy the antics of those idiots that make up the Karasuno volleyball team? Utawarerumono may be a sequel, as the characters appear to be decendants of the first series’ cast, but viewing the first one is luckily not required for newcomers. Though if you have not watched the first, I would recommend it, as you will be able to enjoy the parallels between the two shows and a number of small hints and nods to the original. As for the current Utawarerumono, the characters are already a good deal of fun and it is setting itself up well to be a excellent fantasy adventure. Far from last, One Punch Man has managed to be a hilarious and refreshing entree this season that is yet another example of Madhouse’s current run of fantastic shows over the last few years.
