AniTAY Drop: 1/15/2019 to 2/15/2019

Now that I think about it, this season of anime is stacked with incredibly good shows. Mob Psycho 100 season 2, Dororo, Promised Neveland, and Kaguya-Sama are fantastic, but the anime I’ve been having a lot of fun with is a criminally underwatched show, the Price of Smiles.

Yes, I know the title of the show is kind of dumb and the first episode is quite mediocre, but when it showed me it’s true colors at the end of the 2nd episode, I knew I needed to follow the show to the end. What I’ve been loving about the show without getting into too many spoilers is that it’s a show that explores the nature of war from both sides of the war in a way that is intriguing from a political standpoint and from a feels gut punch standpoint. I swear, this anime does not pull its punches with character deaths.

To summarize, Price of Smiles is like the original gundam where it explores the nature of war and the trauma it inflicts upon people. The show’s character writing is fantastic and since it’s an anime original you can’t spoil yourself on how the show will end (much to my chagrin). Though I love this show, it does have some below average art work, the pacing can be a bit wonky at times, and it can be extremely hard to get through the first few episodes of the show.
