With the release of the anime adaptation of Death March to a Parallel this season, I’ve started to feel that the isekai genre has become over saturated with lazy video game fantasy worlds. It’s just sad to see so many of these isekai stories devolve into uninspired power fantasies in tolkein-esque worlds when I know the genre capable of much more.
I’m glad Overlord season 2 is airing this season to offset Death March’s blandness, but I seriously want to see more unique and interesting isekais to be adapted in the future.
What do you think about the current state of isekai shows? Do you hate it? Love it? Or do you just want to see if go the way of the magical high school genre?
