It may surprise you that user FruityDrinks has been a part of the hit Japanese idol group AKB48 for only two months, because of how well he has gotten along with the girls.
“Yeah, we’re all like one big family,” he told me yesterday in an interview. “It helps that most of them don’t realize I’m a guy though.”
But surely they could tell, I inquired.
“Well, the thing is, idols have to sign these contracts forbidding them from relationships with guys, so they really aren’t sure what to look for, if you catch my drift,” FruityDrinks explained. “Also, I tend to spike their drinks with some really fun stuff.”
I next asked him about the job itself.
“Oh yeah, it’s super fulfilling,” he told me. “See, I’ve always wanted to sing on stage, and I’ve also always wanted to wear a super pretty dress, so I kind of get to kill two birds with one stone here, if you know what I mean.”
AKB48 recently performed the opening theme to hit anime Dexomega Days, and FruityDrinks sang one of the solo parts.
“It was super invigorating to be chosen as a soloist,” FruityDrinks said. “I really feel like one of the girls, even though I miss most of the notes. It doesn’t sound great, but as long as our dresses are revealing no one really cares.”
I then mentioned to Fruity the popular fan theory concerning his IQ’s relationship with his blood-alcohol content level.
“I don’t really know what most of the words in that sentence mean, to be honest,” he replied. “I need another drink.”
My time with Fruity was coming to a close, so I thanked him and prepared to leave.
“By the way,” he said, “Kei Takebuchi is a big fan, she’s coming to my concert next week.”
Something tells me mdubs will be making an appearance.
