Greetings, AniTAY! The past year has come and gone, bringing a close to the decade along with it, and like the past three years before it we are looking at and counting down the favorite anime shows and movies of the past year, as voted on by AniTAY community. As you might’ve notice, this time Gugsy isn’t writing the Top Anime of the Year posts due to real world stuff (don’t worry, he’s fine... I think), and I volunteered to step in and take up duties of gathering and calculating votes.

As in the past, AniTAY contributors were asked for ranked top 10 lists of shows and movies that they liked the most, although ballots that had as few as five entries were also allowed and counted. This time, a total of 26 ballots were submitted (from 26 authors) and 72 shows and movies found their way onto the list, and before you wonder why Beastars isn’t on here, it wasn’t allowed due to not getting an official western release (but rest assured, it will be more than fair to be counted on the 2020 Top Anime list). In the interest of structure and time, today we will go through the first half of the list, shows 72 through 31, with the next two article presenting shows 30 through 11, and then finally ending with the top 10 shows, which will also have a special year-end edition of the AniTAY podcast included. If you’re interested in seeing the results for previous years, I’ve linked to them right below, and with all that said:

I know, I know, some of these shows performed... not as we expected, but hey, movies did pretty well this year, don’t you think (and yes, Promare’s gonna do pretty well for itself, just you wait and see)? Helluva lotta ties, but when you get 26 people listing ten shows each, this isn’t too unexpected. Anyway, stay tuned for the next batch of shows next week, with the top 10 shows to be revealed next Friday!
