The executive committee for the annual Tokyo Anime Award Festival announced yesterday the nominees for its Anime of the Year awards, with the winners being announced during the Festival when takes place from March 19th through the 23rd. To be eligible, a work had to be a film or TV series that was released or aired between November 1st, 2013 and October 31st, 2014. With that said, here are the nominees:

Theatrical Film Category:

Frozen (Disney, 2013)

The Tale of Princess Kaguya (Studio Ghibli, 2013)

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn Episode 7: Over the Rainbow (Sunrise, 2014)

Stand by Me Doraemon (Robot Communications, Shin-Ei Animation, 2014)

TV Anime Category:

Knights of Sidonia (Polygon Pictures, 2014)

Ping Pong the Animation (Tatsunoko Production, 2014)

Yo-Kai Watch (OLM, 2014)

Love Live! Season 2 (Sunrise, 2014)

And before anyone questions Frozen's inclusion, do remember that in Japan they consider any and all forms of animation "anime" so in Japan, Frozen is in fact an anime, and thus why it is nominated(well that, and the fact that it did gangbusters there, which is why I'm assuming Yo-Kai Watch and Love Live! made the cut, too). So, thoughts? Personally speaking I hope The Tale of Princess Kaguya and Ping Pong the Animation win their respective categories.
