Hello and welcome back to another edition of Question of the Weeb, I am your Question Master Ishamael. During my last Question of the Weeb I asked you to pick an anime for me to watch and I’d pick one and actually watch it. The “winner” was Sky Wizards Academy which funny enough I finished quite easily. This is likely to do with the fact the series is incredibly unoriginal and kind of forgettable. Honestly I cannot even remember a single characters name. So the verdict: forgettable cookie cutter likely Light Novel adaptation that of course Funimation dubbed...

Moving on from that though I have a query for you that hopefully may make you think as I often do on the subject. When recommending your favorite genre to a newcomer which anime would you consider essential viewing? As an example everyone knows I am a fan of the Shōnen genre, so when recommending anime I would pick what I think are essentials like Dragon Ball, YuYu Hakusho, Hunter x Hunter, Fist of the North Star, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. My view is these are anime that have defined, influenced, and in Hunter x Hunters case even critiqued and subverted the genre. They give people a great overview of what the genre is, its tropes, and where it came from.

Other people though may have different views of course. So once more: in any genre what do you consider essential viewing and why? Lets have some fun AniTAY!
