Title: Benibana no Otome Uta | Artist: Kana Hanazawa, Aki Toyosaki, and Yui Horie | Show: Otome Youkai Zakuro

So, during the deadzone between the end of the Fall 2015 season and start of Winter 2016 season, I decided to give Crunchyroll’s random button a spin, and was given this show. Otome Youkai Zakuro is a supernatural historical action rom-com(with more emphasis on the rom rather than the com) from 2010 by J.C.Staff set somewhere vaguely after the start of the 1900s, but definitely before World War II and follows a group of Japanese soldiers who are assigned to a new unit that pairs them each up with a spirit to help act as liaisons between humans and spirits. Their partners just so happen to wind up being beautiful half-spirit women though(because of course), and well, things just spiral from there. I actually quite enjoyed it, and part of the reason is the pretty damn good soundtrack the series had.

In particular, this track which usually(but not always) played when there was a climatic action scene in an episode. You see, all of the spirit women wield sakura tree branches as weapons, with three of them using them more like wands, while the titular Zakuro could morphs her branch into a really sharp blade. During these scenes, the three of them that aren’t Zakuro stand in the background singing this song and doing a dance while Zakuro dispatches the threat, kind of like a ritual.
