Let’s go back to the beginning, back to where it all started. This week’s question is: what was the first anime that you ever watched? Was it any good? Have you gone back and watched it since? What do you think of it now?

Though it has been a number of years, somewhere in the 26-27 year range, it was not hard for me to remember that the first anime I ever watched was Voltron. Being just a little too young to have watched it when it first aired in the US, my older brothers fixed that problem for me shortly there after during syndication. I do recognize that the version we saw was significantly different than the one that aired in Japan, which I have still not seen. Regardless of the changes, Voltron was a gateway into a medium that I still haven’t given up, as I watched Dragon Ball, Fist of the North Star and the myriad Gundams on the way to becoming well and truly addicted.

I have not seen Voltron since I was a child, so I don’t really have a strong opinion of it nor do I have any idea how it holds up over the years. But I cannot help thinking of it fondly, for it was where it all started for me. My tastes may have changed, not so much into mecha as I used to be, but you never forget your first.

Last week’s question:

If you have any ideas for future questions of the week feel free to leave them in the comments, otherwise, see you next Friday.
