Another good Kikko face! This whole scene was really cute. We deal with a revived superhuman from 300 years ago this week. So obviously, that means its time for more timeline!

Well, superhumans have been around for far longer than I had thought! This might be our first foray into catgirls in Concrete, which may be more surprising. Our titular Iron Mask Fencer returns to Japan after 300 years of being frozen in Antartica, but she gets manipulated by, who else, Imperial Ads into attacking Jiro, the supervillain “leader”. The animation in this quick battle scene was on point and evoked memories of the great sakuga of the first season.

It seems like the Bureau and Jiro are on slightly better terms? Instead of attacking each other from the get go, Kikko and Jaguar-san work together with Jiro and Detective Raito. I’m not really sure what sparked this change. Kikko has always been on Jiro’s side, and their little scene in the car this week was really sweet (Kikko really can’t keep a secret). But Jaguar-san? The latest we saw of him was last week with the Goldenrod incident where he and Daitetsu Maki fought against Jiro. Maybe there’s more events here in the interim that we’ve yet seen?

Interestingly, the Takamatsuzuka Tomb is an actual historical site dating back to the 7th or 8th century. While in-universe, it was discovered only a year before (47th of Shinka Era is ~roughly 1972), Wikipedia tells me it was found in the 1960s, which might be the first real discrepancy I can find with a Concrete timeline. On the other hand, that it’s taken 19 episodes for an event to not match up timewise for Concrete is pretty incredible.

Jaguar-san can’t stop time anymore, because who I assume to be Earth-chan stole his watch, in the fight from Episodes 8/18. However, by the end of the episode, Earth-chan returns the watch. Also, Ullr states that Kikko is no longer a queen candidate because she “lost touch with her essence”, but not much more of made of this. Furuuota is also gone. I wonder if he disappeared for good, wallowing in his own guilt after learned he destroyed the Bugmen, or if he will return.

So apparently Dragongod Asahi turned on his Zeth Satan Clan, but it was too late, Koma/Iron Mask Fencer was forced to kill him or lose the trust of the people who believed she would defeat evil. So she ended up sealing him and ... I don’t know, the ogre-god who lived there? In the Takamatsuzuka Tomb. But instead of stopping the fighting and bloodshed that she thought it would, it only escalated, while Koma lost the one person she loved and could count on. A very Concrete storyline. What in other anime can and would seem so simple (Defeat the bad guy! Save the day! And live happily ever after!) is so much more complicated in this universe, mirroring real life.

In the midst of all this, the Prime Minister of Japan has been revealed to label all superhumans as evil beings that need to be heavily regulated and policed over. All while he himself is a superhuman, albeit with a very weak power. This shocking news is revealed to the public and the scandal threatens to remove him from office. Once again, there’s a real life counterpart to this: Kakuei Tanaka who was a leader of the Liberal Democratic Party for several decades, and was involved in several political scandals.

Koma is determined to continue the exploring that led her to Antartica in the first place, rather than return to her era. Will she be involved in later events? Our next week preview introduces the Jungle Operation Enforcers. We also get a glimpse of a new character who looks like he’s involved in the military. Another typically solid Concrete episode! What do you guys think so far?
