Beloved director Hayao Miyazaki has pledged over 300 million Yen in the construction of a nature park aimed at children. It will be situated on the island of Kume, near Okinawa. This is both as a way to connect people with nature but also to help the nearby towns who were affected by the influx of people after the earthquake and tsunami in 2011.

Local people and companies will be contracted into the construction and running of the facility. Construction begins in 2016. In the mean time, we can all hope it is as magical a place as every film he’s done with Studio Ghibli!
